people can't attend so hold on I'm not Dre knowledgeable am I recording this and there's my brother so let me go back to the screen sharing go so remember if I said my name Sandrine Cassidy yes I did and thank you for attending our kickoff meeting for the school year this is my second year in this position and I am excited to see some familiar faces and some new faces and so here's what we're going to look at today so we're going to do introductions and we're going to talk about the environmental sustainability committee how its setup and you know how is part of it right now and what we're looking for we're going to look that very briefly on last year's activities we have a featured guests who I hope will show up Kathy Vargas from Culver City environmental programs in Operations Division she'll be talking about recycling in sharing a new video ski video on household hazardous waste and then we'll look for it at some projects that we have come up with both on the upper Channelside on the campuses and then projects at home we also had a great meeting with grades of green they have launched their climate Solutions campaign and we have some team students from to school I've already signed up and we're going to be doing more recruiting and so Caroline will give us an update on that we wanted to show you the waste system that we Define last year and that we really need to set up an make it real now in all around schools we also worked with one of the few that I hope will be today on a guidebook I'll talk about that later also share green tips that every meeting so that you can do things at home and we can have a seam time in today's recycling so they'll be playing ideas for you to take home at every meeting and share with your families and the next dates we set them for the rest of the year hopefully that'll work for everyone and and then we went to open the discussion cuz this is a platform for us to talk about sustainability in our school district and how we imagine it and where are you you want to know what Focus you want to have in your school and we went to be a support to you and you know we went to recruit volunteers to work on projects that they want so it takes a village and so here we are so introductions you could give your name I'm going to get off the sure screen but give your you know if you can keep your camera on and give your name School affiliation to the school and if you are not on our general list please send your email in the chat and we'll get you on our list of you know future meetings and information we have this list of Liaisons for each school with the liaison does is provide us with sword special assistance with the principal getting information through directly to their school I know Lesley McVay has now retired so I'm looking to find someone to replace the her in the middle school and I think we have a few updates here I think the new parents are here so if you are interested in participating in this kind of role well we can have more than one person and then we're trying to really get the word out last year one of the comments was that they didn't even hear about her committee so we're really trying to communicate more on every platform we can to let people know about her meme and you know we're going to share green tips every week with cover pride and Leslie Lockhart will be sending it to all the principal said they should all appear in the school news but we're also trying to figure out when those newsletters go out and who's in charge of them so we're still doing a little bit of our our homework ourselves and then I think that is it for now so let me get out of so we can say hello and starting with Caroline who I couldn't do this without she was with us last year and I'm very thrilled to have her with us again this year Caroline I need a sustainability consultant work on a few projects with standing in the past couple years for the program look for a project related to sustainability and I try to help me happy chibi maybe I'll say the names of Joanna can you unmute yourself hi everyone I'm Joanna Club please and I'm a volunteer at Linwood how I've been trying to doing a lot of green things and but I lost a lot of people because of pain. I have to recruit a bunch of people my green tea for edible accents so it's just me and Bronwyn for now okay well we're happy to have you with us Kelly hi everyone I'm Kellie Kent and I am on the board on the school board for Culver City if I and a big sustainability Advocate and my origin stories with green team at Lynn Howe and it's not because I was an expert in anyway but because my Pier is educated me on the important since I've been trying to do work ever since humbly and I'm excited for a new year with our coordinator Heidi alright thanks yeah I'm Heidi I might have an 11th grade making cost at the high school I was involved early on in the original I am the director HBO thank you Heidi. Charles hi everybody my name is Charlie wysocki I have kids at El Marino third grade and first grade I work for call Patagonia my my intent was to introduce our worn wear team at the bridge between the schools and this one one more day one more tours where they go out to rain all day going out to these organizations and companies to encourage people that repair the reunions are by Marston and repair reuse repair start pandemic the country started as so I'm just so happy happy to join this team committee and contribute in any way thank you Charles Isabella what time is it I'm a junior at 6 to get involved that's awesome thank you Isabella Allison and I have two children that tchs and I was just realizing I was in my high school's environmental club and works with the tree people when I was in high school so I love that I can get involved Environmental great thanks Jasmine your up I already cchs and I'm a senior and I'm a nasty too and I'm in the invite I'm excited to join this this is great yeah Fred hi there I'm bread Cassidy I have a brother and I have to. majors at cchs Renaissance than you individually and what we can do collectively be greener and more sustainable thank you French Katie hi my name is Katie I'm a junior at 5 and I was in there that's awesome so much for attending Jeff got a new myself yes Jeff want to have a son at Culver City Middle School 7th grade but I I wanted to get involved and I've been working with Sandra in and Caroline getting some of the website information updated and just trying to get help things get things moving forward and I'm really excited about the is coming here so even though we're stuck it out what we can do at home educators are kids very excited great to have you again Saba hi everyone my name is I was in the environmental this committee last year's well and I also was in my last year honestly I don't remember how I got involved in this committee but I've been involved when is the end of a senior at Culver yes sub has the right Axis and we're thrilled to have you among us today unless he's summer how do I uninstall umbrella I'm so happy to have Sandra and Caroline back yay I'm so happy to see all these high school students also has two at Farragut Elementary and looking forward to just getting the basics done with waste sorting in the cafeteria just kind of setting it up for for when the kids go back maybe we can streamline us start off right yeah. Those are our goals for this year's seven thank you we did all the walkthroughs last year said to set it up Michelle hi everybody Community member and I've been running the school garden at La Pinata for about the past so I'm No 5 or 6 years and running Garden classes and other kinds of outdoor classes there and so some of what we work on is composting conservation try to hit all the marks in terms of sustainability with the kids so we're not doing Garden classes now but starting the first November I hope to be back in the garden doing something I still have to figure it out with the principal to the school on the pair a couple of parents reached out to me so I said I can't do it and I was doing this I'm happy to join again so thanks for having me thanks Michelle and actually we're happy to hear you about the Garden project is that that was amongst our Christians today so thank you nice to see you how do you spell 11th graders High School this is my second year of the sustainability committee Health Sciences at Cal State Northridge number of years and happy to contribute swear I can I'll just say that I am the parents who led the task and and you know researching and then bringing intervention to El Marino with the filtration system and the installation of the HVAC system in that school so and it's really beautiful to see how fantastic of a district that we have that will step up to do all the right things when they have you know when we can work with them and we have something to offer they they have a lot to deliver also and they work with us beautifully and I that's my experience with the district and I look forward to being of more help as I can into the future thank you for allowing me to be part of the group and run has this HVAC Improvement this in the past 6 months when was this date on your offer on but the filter she was installed and then the rest of the ventilation system which included the air conditioning system was installed in November 2018 in El Marino the school is located very very very close to the freeway so much so that some of it gardeners are about 50 feet away from the freeway and that proximity to the freeway you know within 500 wind of a freeway and so the entire determination but really a lot of cooperation from parents of the teachers and the district the measure of the pollution and bring an intervention in a pilot see that it works eventually through money you know what is it called. Money any funding. Project for El Marino and maybe may not know is that for air filtration to work the clean up the air inside the classroom Windows having an air conditioning to actually be able to before it got inside the room and so you know it was nice that the air conditioning came into that class is based on evidence in science things like that in the air quality management District scaqmd was very helpful and supportive as well as USC and UCLA and Cal State Northridge valuable information or any future project we might have I think the district I'm just starting out for the school year so I don't know I know they have a big HVAC projects right now in the works and maybe some of you may know more than I do right now but I plan to find out in the you know maybe bring this to the committee a little later in the year the thank you Rania Allison we went we've already introduced you and Genesis have said hello can you unmute yourself my name is just the Miami freshman SEC Jazz and I heard of it because of president of the club Sunrise easy jazz yeah yeah perfect that's awesome thank you for showing up and summer I think your left but not least I already did it myself okay moving so anyway did everyone present themselves the one that Miss anyone all right I'll continue sharing my screen I think so. Just just watching Everybody write down their name in the check from your name and email so I can make sure that you guys are on our list. You already I am sure but I just want to know thanks so I just wanted to do a quick recap about our environmental sustainability committee so we have a new sustainability page on the Culver City Unified School District website site so just go ahead and you know keep that address available and you'll see we we did a lot of work with Jeff and and Caroline to you know create a really nice page and we updated everything we have a few things to add there but I think it'll give you a good idea of our Direction and if you have any come inside you know this committee is for the betterment of you know our school's environmental projects so your feedback is is play the essential so last year we had a hundred forty members that included Liaisons and PTA and this stakeholders were staff teachers parents students Club reps volunteers on we had principles and some outside stakeholders also our school district received the highest honor for schools that you pee a green ribbon award in 2017 so we have standards to maintain which is why you know this is great that the school district is investing in my role and then I can then invest in you know this committee and cuz that's how we're set up so our sustainability efforts are led by a sustainable a coordinator who works with the with ESC the superintendent Business Services principal School you done excetera and so we what time are you going to send out a press release I'm just waiting to hear back from the district's press person to so that we get some outside exposure I think it'd be nice to inform you know the world's about this committee and then our Focus is Don School improvements education project support collaborations new ideas relating to improving the environment any questions so far so looking back I don't really want to go into much detail on what we did last year but we had some you know major projects on the campus side we were able to change out actually that we put will flush systems and added aerators to all of us you know the fixtures in seven schools so that was a human this was a free program for the school district and this was through Golden State and the third-party contractor so that was really exciting we got it done it within the year we also applied for a grant with the West Basin and we are replacing two water fountains in the high school with water filling station Spencer ones apparently the school I heard from the superintendent that we need to review all of our water stations because they all have to be handless like we just censored so I think that's something that you know we're going to look into on our end in to try to help cuz we did a lot of research for the grants you know we worked with this city we're looking into doing joint purchasing where we can benefit one and the other from each other's purchasing power so if they're paying less for a copy paper than we they're allowing us to benefit from that in and hopefully vice versa so that's an exciting thing that we're going to continue this year and maybe let you know while school is out obviously things are a little different with purchasing but at least set it up properly and of course reducing are you seeing a single-use plastic items and and things like that and she the education you know we had the green tips we work with grades of Greenwich will talk about for this year and we had an earth Fest we can lots of great things happened even you know with the confinement that happened to starting in May the things that we can bring over to next year also so for the new projects that we can look at for this year on the cities we can ducted are they at the end of last year to see what our committee thought about what we could do you know on campus and then you're in the schools and then at home and so we've combined some of existing ideas with that survey and so this is what we've come up with this is open for discussion you know you're here to give feedback but we're going to continue looking at the utility rate rebate Pro songs to your thinking of staying in water and doing maybe landscaping or even HVAC I think that's a Hot Topic right now and you know there are there's an optimization rebate program for a facts I don't know the details yet but we're just we're just looking at all that there a lot of opportunities through Metropolitan and Golden State West Basin and others so oh yeah we did I added the touchless water bottle filling station for going to look at that Grant cuz we applied for the grant last year and we have all the paperwork ready so we can just apply again and we met they might give it to someone else that hasn't received the grand if we put it in they may they may just give us another two free water filling stations the only thing we pay for is the time to put it in you know to install it so we're going to prepare our waste system on more sorely with Recycling and composting and signage we gathered information last year from all most of the schools except the high school I might ask for the students to help us with this but we were what we did is we asked our lives on his to find out how many recycling cans they needed basically it's the rule of someone can win recycling bin next to it and then T areas where there's food or where their tables you have the three streams and so we got feedback and you know now how many we need we had them select sign in and it's something the high school can do cuz I don't think we got feedback for the high school so happy to work with you guys more closely but we weird looking into getting all of this printed and laminated and vial of the banners and you know we talked with the superintendent and we're looking into this coming out of the school budget and if if needed maybe go to PTA but we're going to first gather all of our numbers and then see how that goes so we'll keep you posted there's still a lot of plastic use even right now with the schools closed in the meals that should go meals and they're all in plastic bags in so we're going to see if we can convince them of the school to newspaper bags you know which recycled-content little little details like that and maybe as a committee we have more impact than you know you mentioning it so let's see maybe we can do a little research first for them and then have a discussion with numbers or obviously healthier food you know I'm not sure exactly what's in there but make some suggestions and then the gardening projects with some Michelle and others might be interested in is that we're hoping that somehow because it's outside and we need to ask each principle that maybe there's an opportunity you bring the kids in even now social distancing unitive work on the gardens I don't know does anyone know Kelly do you know if we're allowed to go in the schools at the moment. Do you have any idea Michelle spoke to the logistics that are required which are simply arranging with the principal Joanna goes on campus right now I see her all the time and then how so I think it's a matter of arranging with that site director the principal get to know perfect and the joint first thing we talked about it already at home so the ideas to teach families about zero waste the superintendent came up with a green family challenge or maybe we just have a recognition for families that participates you know in doing things at home if they send us pictures or I'd love to open we have an open discussion time later on but see what we might do with the families and how do we get them involved in adopting you know the green tips that we're going to have so you know we'll be sharing them here at these monthly meetings with the same but we will also have green tips in the school newsletters hopefully all of them the city you know they may be or may not be able to do workshops I don't know did Kathy get on the line is she Kathy Vargas did she make it to the meeting now okay guess we'll just show her video without her we were thinking also of reaching out to some corporations or maybe even local businesses to supply us with seeds like a little gardening kit for the home No Maybe I don't know Caroline has some good ideas to share about that but maybe they could sponsor and give us seeds and she said even sometimes like Armstrong or other nurseries they have expired seeds but they're still there still good but they just can't sell them anymore you know kind of like a trick food recovery but we would do it for seeds so maybe we could do that you know how do we get teachers involved I'm sorry I'm not very good at doing both of these things you know how do we get teachers involved in more students some integrating sustainability and and all that and everything we do is part of our policy at the school district level so I want to share the best practices I have a I have a slight on so we'll see about that and then continue supporting the existing groups like green ambassadors I'll look forward to hearing from the elementary school parents here in see what your if if you're doing anything and what you want to do but even the environmental Club sunrise excetera and then we should if it was nice to have earthfest week last week at last year's sorry of course it was meant for in person but you know we ended up with videos you know families did take this home and send pictures it was as exciting as it could be in that short amount of time so we should keep our eye on that week to do really cool stuff and you know we made a video with all of these famous people too so I don't know if any of you saw it in the end but hopefully some of you did and I could show you maybe at another timer I forgot about that one but and then cancel to find you know maybe Partnerships in funding for things grades of green we just had a great meeting and I'm going to let Caroline do this then I can't see Caroline there's Fred do you want to race with Robin Murphy from grace of green last year we already had was six did you participated to their campaign was on reducing single-use Plastics Euro long contain about finding climate we apparently they already have recruited two teams one in CCMS in 1 insisted that they will encourage that we want to encourage everyone High School to do a team and participate to become pain they're going to learn a lot so the way it works is if they will maybe also having to do what you want them and they should contact you have the email right about the time the R5 waste energy transportation in food so they will have to choose one category and then one project of the mix. they are supported during the whole year to develop their projects with welding so it's all benefits sending you on your shoulder video I'm going to show you guys the video so from grades of green are working on integrating Environmental this which is you know something we also want to be doing in general. I got lost in my what I was doing I still need to share my screen so here okay so this is a city here are all the people living in it people of all different colors ages whilst and incomes except they don't all live together in the same place they're separated into different parts of the City by what color they are what language they speak and how much money they have and those different parts of the city look quite different the parts whiter and wealthier than to have green spaces grocery stores with nutritious organic food and of course I'm going to buy it and are often far away from pollution admitting freeways and parts that are poorer and more diverse tend to have industrial size Heavy D diesel food at ports and highways and hazardous waste all those things that's a city relies on to run properly but that heavily polluted the air and water and even if they have those grocery stores with nutritious organic food most residents there could anyway how did this happen this separation can be traced back to race-based zoning and housing policies but it wasn't always as deliberate as Play No racism some separations can simply be traced to Portland use planning and as a result these residents of the same city to live very different lives realizes it has an emissions problem it comes up with a plan to reduce air pollution plant more trees it's like a car starter cap and trade program does cheese get planted in the neighborhoods that are already green and the factories that are stealing toxins into are just buy more carbon offsets and kicks doing their toxins the benefits of these programs are in communities that are already doing fine and the communities that were hurting most from all the air pollution well they're still hurting this isn't just an imaginary City this is the story of real cities all across the US where people might live in the very same area code ethnicity or Wilson income bracket causes them to experience wildly different quality of air and water and life in fact it can even mean that they also experienced different that's that's how serious the stuff in this kind of an acre Beyond cities to areas are full of commercially valuable resources like oil and cold and they're also home to indigenous and low-income communities but when those resources are those who don't see any of the money and they end up with all the air and water contamination that's left over from the extraction and we even see this Injustice on a global level like in small island nations that are forced to directly confront the consequences of rising sea levels but haven't played any significant all in the industry that are causing climate change these peoples are sometimes forced to flee their homes because their land is literally going underwater but the very states that did play a hand in creating climate change don't have migration policies to accommodate them talk about environmental justice we're talking about how we can try to break down and re-imagined if it's going to still tough on these inequities a system where those who are already disadvantaged because of their race in economic status are made poor because they're unable to process the resources of the world depends on and I made sick or worse by the environmental contamination that comes with extracting those resources social inequities are intimately tied to the environment that's why social justice is an environmental YouTube so what do you think of this video I'm just going to say that environmental justice has been something I've been fighting for for about 30 years in LA and it is so real and it is very and I am so refreshing to actually see that we are trying to bring back onto the agenda for those students I think it's a beautiful video it's I've never seen it be broken down so simply I usually teaches in my environmental justice and policy courses and much more complicated ways of air pollution and stuff it's really nice to see it broken down in such simple words anything while I was watching it that we have the biggest Urban oilfield you know in in a city in the nation right at and maybe even beyond that and you know maybe if there was a student if any student hear any chance wanted to tackle an idea of climate Solutions its handheld Tina works and they get you all the way to the end and meet with you and if they're amazing and so but I feel like students could really talk to the oilfield companies that are right here in Culver City like I think Culver City there is like what is it 1/6 of the oilfield still significant enough for us to be considering as a city to get us out of this mess that were having it in the backyard with the pollution and all that so another thing that has come up a lot is the school district is so committed Equity right now and has been for the past few years. Splits Italy and hasn't overtly made that tie to sustainability and I hit of course bleeds into every aspect of equity they bleed into each other but when I was thinking about that seems very like low-hanging fruit with respect to this is food because it's our lower socioeconomic status students who tend to be disproportionately black and brown who rely on the food that the school provides either through free and reduced lunch or not and it's likely to be less healthy but also packaged in plastic and so I just thought there's a very direct I their butts social justice and environmental justice issue that maybe somebody would be interested in tackling just wanted to put that out there I'm so I've been thinking a lot about law by Yona being right on Washington Boulevard and it's the only school that I know of in the whole District that's right on a main Boulevard and I've often wondered what the impact of the students are luckily the playground is on the opposite side of the school but I still owe parents and children hang out in front of the school before after school on I just yeah it's a concern is Bennigan's for a long time I totally hear you about the lunches I've been thinking a lot about it and I think it's only hard to change any of the lunch stuff this year with you know how clean everything needs to be but a good way to educate is how to dispose of it properly and get started on that you know there's so much red tape would like every student has to take a milk drink that melts like what can we do to what can what can we do witches teach people how to recycle it and composure properly my snot is is more of a question and I don't you know Kelly your others can help out one of the issues with environmental justice is also you know where a place is located in the wrist to help the children that go to particular school and I don't know if we have a school that is more in a risky neighborhood with higher rates of crime locate next to a place where they sell e-cigarettes and I actually have no answer I'm just putting it out there because that is also an issue of exposure to environmental hazards and inequity issue and given that we have Harmony schools I don't know that every neighborhood is as safe for the children once they are crossing the street or where they would go if they wanted to go get a snack is it equitably safe as soon as they step out of the perimeter of the school just saying that that's another part of the environment is the built environment and that does exposed to risk and Hobbits an accident picking up cigarettes or whatever that might be another issue of equity to talk about if it's applicable I'm just putting it out on the table I don't know what the answer is that's a good point I don't know I mean how do you is it bad to you bringing maybe the police to talk about you no crime levels in linked to schools or is that represents love know about risks in your no one knows better than the parents whose kids go to the school so I'm just putting it out for something that remember that we can talk about that too and that counts how do we keep the children safe or less six to risk in their neighborhood because it's not just the air you breathe the food you eat the water you drink it's also the safety of the space in which you go to school or walk to get to school the experiment actually yeah good point anyone else before we keep going do you have any questions about grades of green students or what you need to do or his some that we they have I think 76 team of students throughout the world like it's amazing how far they reach now but they have two teams of students in the district and so I'm hoping that we could help them gets let's see you know maybe a couple parents I know some to do one or was there after are you interested in doing it we have a lot more time it's a lot less you know as stressful as we did it in one semester this is throughout the whole year it's really an you know I know that there's needs to be Guidance with the younger kids I think this is funny accept education of December so you have time to find the groups and you know Genesis if you can go back to your group and then ASB Club if you could share will send you minutes of this meeting the recording will send you the presentation and then all the links will be on there if you want to maybe in the email will leave put Robin's name to contact her and share the flyer with your students who are looking maybe for projects this is there's not only money at hand but they're really just specialized in this like they'll be able to help you more than maybe any of us so I just think she's gone oh there she is I thought she popped off sorry about that the really well summarized video such a big and important topic and one thing going through the program last year they really take it step-by-step so it's something that you can easily be done by a parent. 4 the video for Walnut Wednesday or on our environmental coordinator right now everybody's at home so I am working from home but I am available if you need any help or if you'd like to chat about something that you have a concern about my boss is Kimber on who actually manages all the programs for our division and so my room the city has morphed a little bit so right now I'm writing a lot of Graham I'm working on a lot of different branch but environmental sustainability is always you know the top of my list stuff you have an idea or a concept something that maybe I can assist with or try and help get somebody from the city Justice with feel free to give me an email actually we had that we were wondering if you were doing any virtual Workshop Serie anything relating to composting anything and you know what we're interested in so there is a Campos video that was created I wasn't working on that project Chanel Kincaid works with me she actually I worked on that and I going to be rolling out soon it has to do with vermicompost in which is with the worms so just a little how to compost video and once they finalized there's just were a couple of little bumps that they over and getting that released but once they get that on finalized then it'll be out and we'll post it so that you can have it as well sending awesome yeah we'll share it with the comedian and then beyond maybe on all of our newsletters so so November 15th marks America recycles day and so because our meeting our next meeting will be after that I thought we would talk about it today remind you all and try to do something with your at home with your families and make it a special day I'll give you some tips a little later on but you know Kathy I don't know do you want to say a word yeah you know so just strictly that day we've always tried to do something then dream when you were working with us we actually tried to tackle the recycles day at the city there every year we try to do something but it it's not really robust or has been robust enough to you to make it citywides and usually focuses on her own city employees last year I believe what rolled out was a recycling program throughout the city for mainly for city employees and people were given containers to help them at desk sign so if this year I don't know with covid going on things priorities have been shuffled in the so there's different things that are happening I haven't heard anything if there's going to be any push for America recycles day specifically but you know recycling always good so any day is this America recycles day make it everyday thank you I have the link to your new video Do you have do you want to say a word about that yeah we are so happy for this video so how to travel this way has always been near and dear to our hearts only because that's probably one of the easiest items that people find in their homes and they just don't know what to do with it and it's not like recycling were recycling everybody's kind of stuff you're with it composting everybody's kind of you know something that they have every day they do every day but household hazardous waste it doesn't come up very often but when it does it's really important people separate that out and dispose of it properly so this little video we worked on it and the idea was just kind of to roll it out right before Halloween we're hoping that it will continue throughout the year we're going to keep pushing and promoting it we have 200 views so I'm real he said it just we just posted it yesterday so we're hoping that it's going to trim this weekend but I'll go ahead for me but I would have I would like to see a little more like I don't know how to get the message about where you actually go and all went by very quickly and I feel like that's kind of the most important information that people know where to take the stuff once they'd identified what it is and maybe your other video focuses on that stole your point you need to know where to take the stuff out of this video we actually created for pieces so the four pieces all kind of refer back to each other so their stand-alone but then they're also they're going to be used like a movie so these four different pieces will be stream together so when we go out into the public for meetings we could run the whole thing I think the maximum is maybe 7 minutes but yes I get that Michelle's at the other can put it on pause since it's a video and just write down the phone number this is coming up coming so the city of Culver City we actually got a grant for hHw was just a very small and will use that money to create these video I was going to get some education out there in the community part of what this was leading up to was that we went out to RFP and we chose a company that will actually be doing curbside household hazardous waste and what that means they're probably going to start in January right now we're in the Contracting phase and what they'll be doing is you could call to the dispatch office and actually schedule a pickup of your household hazardous waste but because of things have you know I just did a little bit of the Seas that would be associated with that the city's not going to be able to pick up those additional fees so it's going to be about $125 per pickups to have someone come to your home take up all your household hazardous waste for see that some people will want to do it because they just want to get rid of their items and they they don't they wouldn't see that as a problem some people might say no that's not what I want to do I'm just going to take it because it's cheaper for he just dropped it off somewhere hopefully those will be in people's minds that you options and not just dumping it or you're throwing it in the trash and you'll probably be seeing more information when 6 months pregnant the company that we're going with his called act and they're really great to work with and we're really excited that when this program will roll out I think once we get past covid-19 maybe the budget considerations will open up a little bit and maybe the city eventually will be able to absorb those costs because that was what we had initially intended that we would provide this program is it serviced or residence that's coming up so I just wanted to throw that out there yep that's great so we're hoping you're here at every meeting Kathy so this is the all of the information we gathered last year for how to set up proper waste disposal and you know that includes recycling in comp singing all the schools with what we need I think I mentioned that earlier in the posters that were going to print so we're going to work on that and then I wanted to share this because Jeff and Caroline and I worked on this but just a lot we have a like 16 page document are our goal is to have a best practices handbook for sustainability for the school district available in key areas Hino Wastewater your energy excetera and so we completed the waist one we have this handbook and then we have we created these one page best practices and they are especially written up in one page for the parents students staff and maybe they're just like we have teams that come from other schools and stuff and each one gives the stick holder ideas specific to who they are and so we need your help to get this out I don't really know we're going to have it on our website hate the sustainability page on the website we're going to send it to you and then we hope that you know we could share it with with the teachers like they could put this in their classrooms and you know so if you have a better way of sending this but the one pagers would be great to share with each you know groups each group so so thank you to Jeff and Caroline and our next the next one we're going to tackle is water just want to say Caroline did a lot of that I just helped her out on a pretty impressive what they put together cuz it's like essential information on what we do or what is being done around the topic I'm in multiple languages just finished it in English I think we could what else Spanish Japanese I can help in Spanish but not Japanese I mean ideally everything in the school district I don't have enough experience but is everything translated always or not sure even if the 1% tint even if there's one sheets could be translated into a fuel line all that if you could send us that information that would be great and then Culver City has a recycle coach app and website so we're again we're going to show this PowerPoint Lincoln so you'll have the link to how to download it and it tells you what you can recycle in Culver City and its really great so I don't know if Kathy wants to say anything more about that app yeah just that it is a great app where you can spend a lot I'm loading up the database which is the back end of it just be kind of you know address every question that you can think of about Recycling and trash and pick up days and Culver City so on the app itself if there's some thing that you know you're looking for an item that you know can be recycled or if you have a question about that you don't see it you can always either email me and say what about this and we can add it or I think there's a key on the recycle coach apps that you can kind of like the CRM for the city of Culver City where you can click on it and then it'll you can put in whatever your comment is and then it'll send it to me it'll it'll find its way back to me and then I can address it but it is a great app at easy-to-use it's free it's either Apple or Google or not Google Google whatever the Android application is yeah it's great another use it just as a on your your home computer you don't have to use it on your phone thank you Kathy I think it's a good opportunity this month of November to check out how your setup at does it mean if you have enough recycling containers are you I don't know if you have helped do they know how to recycle properly and you know do the kids are there probably teaching Delta how to do it at this point but you know maybe take a look at what you're doing and and you have questions you can contact me great because it is I'm going in so I'm and then if you have some items that you really don't know what to do with them earth911 is a great resource and actually they explore a lot of topics around waist and all that is there really a good resource just even even more than just to know where to put things if they have a lot articles that are interesting for for some of us that are interested in this so have a look and then terracycle.com we were going to do this a program with them last semester but then we ran out of time they do collect unusual items and they have boxes that you can buy some are free and some are paying but you know if for example when you're back to school and the kids goodbye in are bringing in Capri Suns in so you can start collecting those through terracycle they have special boxes and then they make items out of it and so it's so you know this is the circular Economy Inn and cycling these items to something more functional so your cycle is a great company that you know we're so excited that they're around and hopefully will work with them but if in your individual schools you were interested in you know you know you're away streams I think for those of you paid attention so you could find resources their colleague Kelly is back in Northern California using us at her school and she was able to I guess skipped and I raised a lot of money using terracycle and she I guess we gained from the cost of some of these things put the money back into the school toothbrushes. things can be like you can get money back from them and I think it's a good way for schools to raise money in person that'll be something we can do very easily get the students in Ogden get them excited and generate some money too I haven't done it myself I think it would just this one time on the creek with the cigarette butts we collected all of those and then and then I do they make ashtrays it was something like really funny I mean it was great that they were actually making something that helps to protect the environment with that same item so do you have a question Kelly. no problems so and then we want people to share their photos if possible with us so we can gather some resources during the year of what people are doing at home and use them maybe during Earth week and or if we're trying to recognize families for doing a great job in some of these actions so we're hoping you're going to help spread the word and you know we're going to have a theme for each month not sure what next maybe next month will be water but you know we need volunteers to work on maybe the handbook and other things like that so if you haven't spare time in if you're very passionate about what we're doing and want to dedicate a little bit of time it can be a little know Julia commit to changing one thing every month that we you know for example I I think I gathered some friends at cows that were interested in this and I think Michelle came and Caroline and my I was like what is your pet peeve or your thing that you hate that you're doing this so anti-environment and for me it was like plastic bags I was still buying even it was recycled content plastic bags and so I switch to paper bags with recycled content that was my thing but anyway what what can we all do collectively and I don't want to spin I want to spend time talking to you guys still in hearing
