Gifted and Talented Education
The Culver City Unified School District (CCUSD) GATE Program strives to implement high quality differentiated opportunities for learning that meet the needs of GATE students’ talents. Download the CCUSD GATE brochure for more information.
Meeting the Needs of all Students
CCUSD strives to meet the needs of all students. GATE and high achieving students are served through a number of delivery models and settings. Beginning in middle school, student have the opportunity to participate in Scholars (for English Language Arts) and accelerate through compacted curriculum (mathematics). It is important to note that while GATE participation Is one of the criteria that could potentially identify secondary students in honors or accelerated courses, it is not the only nor most important criteria. Classroom achievement in middle school is a strong indicator of success in high school honors and advanced placement courses.
3rd Grade GATE Testing
District-wide testing of all 3rd graders for the CCUSD GATE program will take place in the spring. Parent information including an option to opt- out of testing will be sent home from individual elementary sites prior to testing. Letters are sent home to students who qualified into the program and will be received before the beginning of the following school year.
4th-7th Grade Eligibility
Students have an alternate pathway for GATE identification. The rubric for this pathway can be viewed below. Educational Services will collect data on a yearly basis, pertaining to the rubric and eligibility, and parents will be informed should their student qualify.
